This patient had a breast tumor called DCIS (ductal carcinoma in-situ), which is often treated with either a mastectomy or the combination of lumpectomy, radiation and hormonal therapy. We now have a state-of-the-art, precision medicine test for those with DCIS that can tell us whether radiation treatment is needed or not based on the individual’s tumor biology. In this report, the “DCISionRT” test found that radiation will NOT improve this patient’s cancer recurrence risk over surgery and hormonal therapy alone.
